I am originally from Western Pennsylvania and attended the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating with my master’s degree in education, I moved to Loudoun County Virginia where I taught 2nd and 3rd grade. I have been at ASFS for two years and I am excited to continue learning together! I love staying active, crafting, traveling, and baking.

Hi First Graders and Families! I am so excited to join the ASFS community. I previously taught 2nd Grade in Loudoun County for 4 years. This is my first year teaching 1st Grade and I am so excited! I am from Falls Church City and received my Bachelors and Masters degrees from James Madison University. Go Dukes! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, especially at the beach, and cheering on DC sports.

I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. I graduated with my BS in Education from Mississippi College in 2004 and then went back to earn my Masters Degree from LSU. Before joining you all in Arlington, I taught in Mississippi, North Carolina, Zambia, Germany and Fairfax County. I have been married for 20 years and I have two sons named Connor and Caiden who are both in University. I am so excited to be part of this wonderful learning community at ASFS!

Ms. Shannel Hoyer

Hello! My name is Shannel Hoyer. I began teaching at APS in 2014 after moving to Arlington, VA from North Carolina; where I taught for 7 years. Prior to teaching in NC I stayed home with my son for 11 years. I had taught for 6 years in Missouri, the state which I grew up in. (Go KC Chiefs!) I am a National Board certified teacher. When I’m not teaching, you will often see me walking around the DC area. I enjoy spending time with family, exercising, reading, and traveling. I hope to inspire my students to believe in themselves and to follow their dreams.
