Meet the 5th Grade Teachers

Ms. Julie Janicki is a graduate from St. John’s College in Annapolis with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and the History of Math and Science. She spent five years teaching English in Japan before returning to the United States and earning her Master of Education in Elementary Education from The George Washington University. She loves cooking, swing dancing, reading fantasy and science fiction, and running. She is an avid fan of German’s Bayern Munich soccer team and has huge hopes for this year’s Bundesliga and Champion’s League titles!

Ms. Judith Lally is a graduate of Longwood University and is endorsed in Gifted Education. She has enjoyed thirty years of working with elementary students of all ability levels in grades 1 through 7. A native of Virginia, she has lived in Oklahoma, Florida, and Massachusetts, as well as in Italy, Greece, and Saudi Arabia. She has hiked to the highest peaks in thirty-two U.S. states and in Ireland and Germany. She enjoys grandchildren, gardening, needlework, and New England sports – especially the Red Sox (though not so much this year!).

Ms. Lisa Gallagher is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University and is endorsed in Gifted Education. She has taught upper elementary grades for the past 13 years. Originally from Philadelphia, Ms. Gallagher has lived in Arlington for the past 11 years. She loves reading, traveling, and has recently become interested in cycling. She is thrilled to be joining the 5th grade team at Arlington Science Focus School!

Ms. Doris Nhan recently graduated with a Master of Education in Elementary Education from The George Washington University. For her master’s program, she spent eight months as a teacher intern at ASFS. She also has a double bachelor’s degree in journalism and art history from the University of Maryland. Before teaching, she worked for several years as a reporter and news producer for several media outlets. In her spare time, she loves running, hiking, and reading. Though a teacher in Virginia, she was born and raised in Maryland and is an enthusiastic fan of Old Bay, crab boils, and funnel cake from the O’s stadium.
