ASFS is A Box Tops School! Arlington Science Focus participates in the “Box Tops for Education” program.  Have you seen those little pink rectangles on your Cheerios or Progresso soup?  On your Land O’ Lakes butter or your packs of Nature Valley granola bars?  They’re everywhere! Each little “box top” is worth ten cents for us.  If we collect enough, we can redeem them for great stuff like computers, books, and more. Please clip them and send them in to us:

ASFS-Amazon Smile Program: As you do your online shopping — DON’T FORGET to shop using AmazonSmile at http://smile.amazon.com.Sign in and designate “Arlington Science Focus PTA” as your charity of choice. Thereafter, any time you shop via AmazonSmile a portion of what you spend automatically goes to ASFS. The interface is exactly the same as the regular Amazon – except that you can see your designated charity of choice listed at the top left of the page. This program can be used by anyone (friends, family, neighbors, coworkers) so please spread the word!! All of your purchases really add up to serious donations for our school throughout the year. If you use the Amazon App to shop on your smart phone, simply put all items in your cart via the App. Then, go to http://smile.amazon.com on your internet browser to check out. All the items you selected on the App will automatically appear on the AmazonSmile interface – then go ahead and purchase! Remember, friends and family can shop using http://smile.amazon.com to benefit ASFS too. If you share your Amazon Prime membership benefits with relatives or friends – be sure that they are shopping using AmazonSmile to support ASFS as well. It just takes a second, and can do so much for our school. Thanks!

APS Inclement Weather Policies
A message from ARLINGTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS Based on the temperatures outside and weather forecasts, the winter season has arrived.  As a result, Arlington Public Schools wants to remind families to make plans for the increased possibility of inclement weather in our area. We encourage you to make sure your children dress warmly, allow for plenty of time to travel to and from school or the bus stop, and stay informed about weather-related changes to school operations. How to Learn about School Closings, Delays or Other Changes: Decisions to close school or delay school opening are made after consulting local agencies. When there is no change in operations, the APS Web and Hotline say that the status for APS is unchanged. Decisions are usually announced and posted no later than 5 a.m. Notices about changes in APS operations can be found at:

Childcare Issues: We understand that changes in school operations can be inconvenient for families to arrange childcare at the last minute. We urge families to put in place alternative plans now for the care of your children when school schedules change. Consider making arrangements with a reliable teen or stay-at-home adult in your neighborhood, or work together with other parents to support each other by forming cooperative childcare groups. We also urge you to explore options available with your neighbors and members of your school’s PTA. We hope you find this information useful and thank you for your cooperation.
