Back to School Night will be held on Thursday, September 11th from 6:30-8:00 pm. Back to School Night will be an in-person event for parents only with no childcare offered. This is an opportunity for you to learn about the expectations of the grade level and the exciting year the staff has planned for your child.
School Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00-3:50pm. Early Release 9:00-1:30 pm. Doors open at 8:40am. Any student that comes after 9:00am must be signed in by a parent.
Transportation: Bus information will be available in ParentVue. It will take about three weeks for transportation to have the timing of pick-up and drop-offs ironed out. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early at bus stops each morning and afternoon.
Absences: If your child is going to be absent, please alert us by emailing [email protected] or calling the attendance line at 703-228-7672. All students leaving early from school must have their parent send an email to their homeroom teacher, and parents must physically sign their child out from the office. In case of illness or emergency, if your work is further than 30 minutes from the school, please make sure to add a trusted adult who can come and pick up your child in ParentVue.
Meals: APS will offer breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is $2.35, lunch is $3.45, and milk is $.80. Forms are available online for free and reduced lunch applicants. APS is committed to providing nutritious meals for all students. Students are welcome to bring their lunch from home. No glass bottles or cans of soda, please. You can see the menus and more information at : https://www.apsva.us/food-and-nutrition-services/
PTA Engagement: To support your child in their school community, we suggest that you join the PTA and attend each month’s meeting to provide input and gain knowledge about school-related topics. This is an essential component of your participation in your child’s journey at ASFS. We know you have many ideas and talents to share by volunteering in the school and assisting through the PTA. You can email PTA President, Heather McDougle, at [email protected] to find out how you can volunteer today. LOST AND FOUND: Please, please label your child’s clothing, lunch box and water bottle. We hold the items in the cafeteria near the door. If your child is missing something, please come and look in this area. We do occasionally empty the lost and found by donating items to local charities, so please don’t wait too long!
Volunteering: We will have many opportunities for families to volunteer and participate. If you think you would like to volunteer or attend a field trip as a chaperone any time this year, you must complete the Volunteer application and training. * Volunteer Application Link – to ensure the safety of students, staff and visitors, all volunteers must be approved through APS. The approval process can take a few days, so please be sure to fill out the application prior to volunteering. Once approved, your application is good for three years. In addition, Arlington Public Schools requires all parent visitors to be registered with their drivers’ licenses in our security system. Please stop by the office to have your license scanned – it takes no more than 90 seconds. If you have questions, please contact the office at 703-228-7670 or email Andrea Ross at [email protected].
